Samantha Fisher was released from Chicago Red Stars on her first day back with the club, following her participation in the W Gold Cup with El Salvador.
Fisher admitted she’s “sad” and “in shock” hearing unexpected news on her return to Chicago.
The new NWSL season starts this weekend.
Fisher was born and raised in California to a Salvadoran mother.
She decided to represent El Salvador on the international stage and got her passport in January.
The midfielder missed large part of Chicago’s pre-season as she spent last few weeks with El Salvador.
Fisher returned to Chicago with excitement following her participation with El Salvador, where she scored their first goal in a major international tournament.
Hearing the unexpected news that she’s been released from the club was brutal.
She’s been with them since 2022 when she turned professional.
