Texas native Lauren Omholt is a rising talent in Mexican football.
After playing for them in the 2022 U-17 World Cup, she’s now a key member of the U-20 squad, recently scoring against Spain.
Omholt is eligible to play for México because her father was born in Mexico City to American parents 🇲🇽🇺🇸
“My daughter is a very proud Mexican with dual nationality,” he said on Twitter.
“We’ve always had so much love for the people of México.”
Omholt was born and raised in McKinney, Texas and now plays for Purdue University.
Surprisingly, the 19-year-old has been playing as a defender for México, while playing as a forward for Purdue.
But she’s excelled in both positions. She’s also enjoying playing the sport in both Indiana and México, experiencing different styles of play, culture, and teammates.
Omholt also gained a strong social media presence since her decision to play for México.
