On April 8, when the moon will entirely block the sun in a total solar eclipse, only a few lucky regions will witness the phenonemon’s full effect.
The cosmic event can best be seen on something called “the path of totality.” This path will cross several areas on the East Coast, including Erie, Pennsylvania; Buffalo, New York; Burlington, Vermont; Lancaster, New Hampshire; and Caribou, Maine.
So we’ve compiled a guide to the best spots for eclipse-viewing in its path, including cool festivals and gatherings along the coast.
Choose between the all-day celebration at Port Farms in Pennsylvania, where live music, campfires, and local brews will be part of the fun, or the beach-themed party atop snowy Cannon Mountain in New Hampshire. Over in Vermont, there’s wine-paired stargazing at Shelburne Vineyard, and in New York, enjoy the show from a 19th-century historic village.
