“During my most recent visit to Svalbard, I had an epic encounter with an Arctic fox that has forever changed me. This little one took me by surprise. I always try to avoid getting too close to wildlife, but this one was so curious it ran straight up to me, so close I had to put my Alpha 1 + 400mm F2.8 G Master down and just enjoy the moment. I sat there as still and as quiet as I could, & it felt comfortable enough to roll over & show me its belly! They have become one of my favorite animals & I now lead a small workshop group to photograph them each year. Due to the climate crisis, arctic foxes are estimated to be gone within 3 generations, so we must do everything we can to protect them / stop that from happening! They are amazing creatures that can live in the most punishing cold. Their fur is their warmth + their protection & changes colors with the seasons to act as camouflage.
