I had the pleasure this evening to sit with former San Antonio Spurs Silver Dancers @taraysuh and Melissa Martinez to discuss how many of the Silver Dancers were hurt and blindsided by the disbanding of the dance squad and were replaced with a “family friendly hype team”. This might be long winded (as I usually am) but it upsets me that these girls are the definition of hard work, class, and professionalism . They have done a lot to conform to the conservative needs of the Spurs organization and to be disbanded out of nowhere is so sad! They have done a lot for this community and it’s upsetting that they are considered too “risque” for the NBA . Many young girls dream of being a cheerleader for a professional team and the Silver Dancers were ranked #2 in fan engagement 2 years ago so the “lack of fan interest” that was stated in the memo released is upsetting to see.
