Braden Holtby signed a two-year, $8.6 million contract with the Vancouver Canucks on Friday, officially ending his tenure with the Washington Capitals. The 31-year-old netminder is one of the most significant players to move on from a Washington core that carried the Capitals to their first Stanley Cup in 2018.
With the Capitals facing salary cap constraints — the upper limit is set at $81.5 million, unchanged from this past season — they repeatedly emphasized that it would be difficult to re-sign Holtby. (Photo by Toni L. Sandys/The Washington Post)
