109 years ago today, the Universal Studios Lot opened.
On March 15, 1915, Carl Laemmle inaugurated the second location of Universal City on the 230-acre Taylor Ranch in what is now known as North Hollywood, along Lankershim Boulevard. The opening event attracted a large gathering of both men and women, eager to explore the film stages, witness daredevil pilots perform stunts, and see their beloved silent film stars in action, alongside the movie cameras Laemmle had brought with him.
