Happy #SFoutdoors! Today we're giving you a two-for-one, an outdoor space to explore AND a history lesson. At the base of the Golden Gate Bridge, sits "the pride of the Pacific," "the Gibraltar of the West Coast" or otherwise known to many simply as Fort Point. Built between 1853 and 1861, Fort Point was constructed to protect the bay against foreign attack. During the construction of #thatSFbridge, there were plans to demolish it, but Joseph Strauss, Chief Engineer of the bridge, recognized the significance of the fort and saved it from being destroyed.
