“He said to the, ‘Pick me up and hurl me into the sea; then the sea will quiet down for you, for I know it is because of me that this great tempest has come upon you.’” -Jonah 1:12 The Lord has a plan for each of us; he calls us commanding us to go out and declare his name and his love. When Jonah did not listen and went against God, he sent a storm at Jonah. It was his fallen nature, actively choosing to go away from God, that consequences arose. Often we see and hear that we need to humble ourselves before the Lord, but what does this mean and how do we practically do this? It’s simple: recognize your fallen nature and receive the gift that Jesus has given you. It’s understanding that there is nothing that you can do to reconcile yourself, to repent, to earn your way into heaven. We are broken and can never do anything alone; our best is not good enough, the punishment for sin is death.
