Video by bertiegregory and Johnny Rogers (irish_camera) | A pod of pilot whales cruises at the surface 30 miles (50 km) off the coast of Costa Rica. The animals’ name is a little misleading. These pods were thought to be “piloted” by a single leader, but that’s not true. Furthermore, pilot whales are actually dolphins. The chunky section just in front of their tail is the caudal peduncle. In this video, that area is tall and packed full of muscle, allowing them to dive fast and deep to reach their squid prey. Filmed for “Epic Adventures With Bertie Gregory,” now streaming on disneyplus. #EpicAdventuresWithBertieGregory
