Photo by mattiasklumofficial | Tropical pitcher plants of the Nepenthes genus are, in my opinion, among the most spectacular endemic species in the Raja Ampat archipelago of West Papua, Indonesia. Super funky and otherworldly in appearance, they get some or most of their food from trapping and consuming animals or protozoans, typically insects and other arthropods. Nepenthes, like other carnivorous plants, have adapted to grow in places where the soil is thin or poor in nutrients.
