I like to call this species the clown treehopper because of its coloration. Here you can see how different treehoppers of the same species are, depending on age, with the adult—on the right—4 mm (about 1/8 inch) long. The coloring warns predators with a simple message: “I’m not edible.” These are some of the most colorful treehopper species in the Amazon Basin.
