Photo by rubensalgadoescudero | Daw Mu Nan, 45, a Kayan Lahwi farmer and mother of eight, rests at her grandson's home in the village of Pa Dan Kho in Myanmar. The Kayan Lahwi tribe are a subset of the Karenni, an ethnic minority in Myanmar. The women of the tribe are known for wearing brass coils around the neck, appearing to lengthen it.
With solar power, Daw Mu Nan can visit and spend time with her grandchildren in the evenings after a day of working in the field. Most villages in Myanmar lack electricity.
This is part of my long-term project, Solar Portraits, which is focused on electricity access and the impact of solar power in communities around the world. Follow me on rubensalgadoescudero to see the world through my lens.
