Photo by Karine Aigner kaigner | The ever fascinating circle of life: western diamondback vs. Mexican ground squirrel. Did you know that rattlesnakes have a very high failure rate? They can spend days hunting for a meal. These snakes strike their prey—injecting venom—and then go about their business. They allow enough time (sometimes hours) to pass for their meal to succumb to the venom, and then they go back to find it. This is my second encounter with a rattlesnake that was hunting for the prey it had struck earlier. I watched this snake come out from under a tire where it had been resting. I photographed it for about 20 minutes as it went from bush to bush apparently looking for something. It finally ended up at "its" squirrel, which was lying dead at the base of a bush. The snake knew exactly what it was looking for. This species never fails to amaze me. #rattlesnake #snakesofig #snakelover #wildlifephotography #wildlife_perfection #natgeo #amazingnature #animals_captures #anim...
