Photographer amivitale caught this panda during snack time at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. The giant panda spends as long as 14 hours a day eating—consuming about 40% of its body weight daily. Part of what makes pandas so cute is their round faces, an evolutionary adaptation for the powerful jaw muscles they need to help them chew through tough bamboo stalks.
