Photo by rubensalgadoescudero | In Saipur, India, workers use solar lamps to collect newly baked bricks. Solar lights allow them to work in the cooler evening temperatures. Over the last decade, India has made an aggressive push to provide electricity access to its citizens, with over 99% having grid access in 2019. That number, however, is expected to drop sharply from the impact of the pandemic. Access for most of northeastern India, where Saipur is located, is less than 18 hours a day. This is part of my project Solar Portraits, which focuses on the lack of electricity access around the world and the positive impact of solar power.
