Videos by Matthieu Paley paleyphoto | In October I took my 10-year-old son to Pakistan’s Karakoram Mountains. As we trekked, we were very lucky enough to sync up with animals migrating from summer to winter pastures along the 57-kilometer-long Batura Glacier. We spent a 14-hour day walking in difficult terrain, mainly unstable moraine. As you can see, among the Wakhi people, shepherding is very much a woman’s job, and the sights and sounds are amazing! Guest shepherds are welcome too: Within one hour, my son took on the job, zipping right and left to help keep the herd of 300 sheep and goats together. I am so grateful to sometimes take him along with me, just one of the many perks of a worldschooling education. For more insights into our world, follow paleyphoto
