Time-lapse video by babaktafreshi | On this cold but clear night in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, my cameras recorded hundreds of meteors during the Geminid shower peak on December 13-14. This video sequence also shows constellation Orion setting above the cliff. I used an astrophotography camera, which reveals red celestial nebulae far better than a standard camera might. In the close-up scenes, a haze appears around bright meteors. Known as persistent trains, these are vapor trails left by the glowing ionized atoms—energetic and heating up the atmosphere in their path. The cloud in the video expands and moves because of high-altitude winds. Explore more of night sky wonders with me babaktafreshi.
