Video by amivitale / Reteti Elephant Sanctuary (r.e.s.c.u.e) keeper Silus leads Lemorijo during an evening feed. Feeding is a big part of the day’s work for the handlers. Half gallon bottles of special formula are given every three hours around the clock, and drinking is a noisy, slurpy affair. Afterward the elephants fall into a deep stupor.
Reteti is the first ever community-owned elephant sanctuary in Africa. It provides a safe place for injured elephants to heal and later be returned back to the wild. Learn more about how you can get involved and help support this vital initiative by following amivitale and r.e.s.c.u.e.
