Wildlife corridors have become ever more fractured by roads and development, making travel far more complicated for roaming animals like elephants, which constantly face human-wildlife conflicts and poaching threats. Over the course of a year, I got to witness a few of the 520 elephants and 2,000 other animals relocated from Liwonde National Park and Majete Wildlife Reserve to Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve in northern Malawi. africanparksnetwork provided new protected habitat, eased wildlife population pressures, and helped ignite a new tourist economy—and not a single animal was lost or harmed. It was one of the most remarkable logistical ballets I’ve ever seen.
