Heat stress- related diseases like chronic kidney disease of non-traditional causes have been sickening tens of thousands of workers. The temperature gauge on the chest of this worker represents hope for the future. The device tracks how heat, exertion, and time impact body temperature. The Adelante Initiative is bringing rest, water, and shade to these workers as part of a pilot project administered by Ingenio San Antonio, the largest sugarcane producer in Nicaragua, and it's showing promising results.
