Photo by Karine Aigner kaigner / When Momcat is away, her kittens will play! I spent several months photographing this family of wild bobcats denning under a house on a ranch in Texas. We met by accident when the kittens were about 10 weeks old, beginning a story that continues to the present. Each day the family’s routine was similar. Every afternoon, when the sun began to get lower in the sky and the Texas heat began to wane, Momcat and her kittens would emerge from under the house. Momcat would groom them as they romped and played, and then the adult female would leave the kittens behind, heading out to hunt as her young family explored their environment and awaited her return. This litter consisted of three kittens: two males and a female—each with its very own unique personality. And each with what seemed like an unending desire to play!
