Photos by Pete McBride pedromcbride / In Antigua, Guatemala, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, locals celebrate Holy Week leading up to Easter in style. I was there on assignment for natgeo on Good Friday, when worshippers carry floats through streets covered with elaborate alfombras— carpets made of sawdust and adorned with colorful flowers and other objects. After the processions pass through, a sweep team follows to clean up any remaining evidence of the artistic creations, which often take weeks or months to design. To see more traditions, follow pedromcbride.
