Photo by paulnicklen / I was struck by the familiarity in the face of this juvenile gorilla as she allowed us a peek into her world atop the lush green mountains of Rwanda. Later that same evening, after returning to camp, a difficult question lingered in my mind: How much of ourselves must we see in the face of another species before being compelled to consider their welfare? It is a question I'm not sure I know how to answer, given tensions between human beings over our most subtle differences. We have somehow become estranged not just from our wild relatives but from each other as well. I am excited to align with those who are committed to healing our divided world.
