Looking at it reminds me that there is a need to be vigilant during this time about wearing masks, social distancing, and taking every precaution possible. Many of us are weary after a year of life-altering behavior that has proven necessary to protect people like my parents—the elderly, compromised, and more vulnerable populations—from what has proven to be a formidable foe. The COVID pandemic has changed life as we know it for the time being. But it has also offered us an opportunity to reach into the depth of our humanity and practice equanimity and compassion in the midst of facing our own, sometimes overwhelming, losses from this encounter.
