Photo by paulnicklen / Shooting in the northern coastal forests of British Columbia allows me an opportunity to commune with the incredibly rare spirit (or Kermode) bears. Being native to Canada, they hold a special place in my heart, and I have spent weeks at a time searching for them, returning home empty-handed on many occasions. It is always a challenge to embrace the fact I have very little control over my subject matter, but the most rewarding experiences and truly unique photographs often spring from rare and unexpected moments.
