The reservoir was created after the Luan River was dammed in the late 1970s, submerging sections of the wall and turning farmers into fishermen. In times of drought, more wall is exposed as the lake level drops. Fishermen cast their nets over the submerged sections as the wall acts like an artificial reef attracting the fish stocked in its waters.
