Repost from napawf: Three years ago today, eight people lost their lives in the Atlanta Spa Shootings. The six Asian American women murdered in these shootings faced specific racialized and gendered violence for being Asian women and massage workers. The shooter targeted and blamed them for his “addiction to sex” – a deadly and disgusting racialized sexualization of Asian women. This horrific act was fueled by the intersection of racism and misogyny that AAPI women are unfortunately all too familiar with. The rise in anti-AAPI harassment and violence disproportionately impacts women, but we know that this dehumanization has a long history. One of the first United States immigration laws, the Page Act of 1875, tried to stop Asian women from entering the country under the justification that East Asian women were or would become sex workers.
