Photo by irablockphoto / South American sea lions laze on the rocks in Chile's Tucker Islets. These sea lions vary in size, with adult males weighing about 660 lbs (300 kg) and adult females about 330 lbs (150 kg). They have a life expectancy of about 20 years. In the 19th and 20th centuries, South American sea lions were extensively hunted, depleting the population. They are no longer hunted commercially, although some countries wish to resume it.
