Photo by jasperdoest / I remember the scene as if it happened today: First, a head peeks through a doorway and soon the rest of the figure follows, apparently unbothered by my presence. I smile and rouse myself from sleep, still fighting jet lag. I search for my camera, only to find the battery dead. Why now!? Clearly I wasn’t prepared for this. I stare at the flamingo in front of me, and before I know it he’s on his way out again. Obviously I’m not as interesting to him as he is to me. I can’t help thinking, nonody is going to believe this. Luckily I would have many more chances to capture this flamingo, a rescue animal that lives with my cousin, a veterinarian, in Curacao.
