Due to the economic impact of COVID-19, there is less philanthropic funding available for conservation— and that's likely to continue well into 2021. As a result, these guardians face increased threats and fewer resources, putting themselves and vulnerable animals at greater risk. This image is early morning in the central section of Virunga, one of the most difficult places for rangers. This year alone they have lost fifteen rangers, with nine wounded. This is not the only place where rangers are at risk as they defend our global wildlife heritage.
