Photo by amivitale / Happy World Rhino Day! Najin and Fatu, the last two northern white rhinos on the planet, graze at northern Kenya's OlPejeta Conservancy. A consortium of scientists from Leibniz Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Research (leibnizizw), KenyaWildlifeService, and SafariParkDvurKralove have successfully harvested oocytes (immature eggs cells) from Fatu and from Najin to make three viable embryos. The hope is to implant these embryos into southern white rhino surrogates and resurrect the species from extinction. Follow amivitale olpejeta and biorescue_project to learn more, including ways you can support this critical work. bmbf.bund leibnizgemeinschaft MinistryOfTourismAndWildlifeKE
