Our goal as wildlife filmmakers has always been to tell stories intimate enough to engage viewers on a personal level–and this applies to our new project too. In Jade Eyed Leopard, we wanted to offer a unique glimpse at the formative years of one of Africa’s most elusive cats. The film presented us with a once-in-a-lifetime experience of shadowing the heroine of the story, Toto. Whether it was through deploying thermal night-vision technology to record rarely seen nighttime interactions with different species, or documenting her unusually powerful bond with her mother, we wanted to capture her passage toward adulthood in a really special way. Through stories like hers, we hope to motivate people to come to the aid of big cats–to help us preserve these creatures so that future generations will know that parts of the world are still wild.
