The Scout // The Scout statue in Penn Valley Park has kept watch over downtown Kansas City for almost a century. KC became it's permanent home in 1922 after citizens loved it so much that they raised $15,000 to keep it here. It's sad to see it so covered in spray paint, but unfortunately vandalism has long been a part of its life. I was surprised to learn that the bow, the arrows, and the Scout's feather have all been stolen many times before, and the rock base it sits upon was added in 1960 to deter vandals. Still, a beautiful statue and a cool part of our city's history. "Of course, paint can be covered up, cleaned off or fade over time. It’s nothing The Scout hasn’t weathered before." - Kate Hill, KC Star #kansascity #kansascityparks #kcparks #kc #kcmo #pennvalleypark #gh5 #mavicair2 #thescout
