The Editors of Encyclopaedia Britannica wrote, in an article about Diane Arbus, that she photographed “individuals living on the outskirts of society and ‘normalcy.’” Her pictures such as “A young man in curlers at home on West 20th Street N.Y.C.”, which this recreation was based off of, were said to have caused people to feel disturbed and feel as if by publishing these photographs she was promoting their actions. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ When I read about this, I wasn’t sure whether she published to support these people, if she did it because her work was popular, or if there was a third reason I don’t know of, but what I do know is that it’s because of people like her who chose to show people’s differences and step past society’s comfort zones, that more and more people today are being accepted for who they are. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Photography isn’t just a hobby but rather a way of life, a way to bring light to the problems of the world, the wrong doings, and the hardships, and it’s a way to encourage people to wan...
