Ice to see you. 🧊⁣⁣ ⁣ While not the only planet in our solar system with rings, Saturn's rings are the most prominent and complex, made from billions of small chunks of ice, rock, and dust.⁣⁣ ⁣ Saturn's rings extend up to 175,000 miles (282,000 kilometers) from the planet, yet the main ring's vertical height is typically around 30 feet (10 meters). The rings are spaced relatively close together except for Rings A and B, which the Cassini Division separates – a gap measuring 2,920 miles (4,700 kilometers) – named for the Italian-born astronomer Giovanni Domenico Cassini who discovered the rings of Saturn, shown just to the left of center in this image.⁣⁣ ⁣ This image was taken by the spacecraft Cassini, using red, green, and blue spectral filters to approximate what a human might see if they were in orbit around Saturn. The Cassini-Huygens mission was a joint venture between NASA and EuropeanSpaceAgency and AgenziaSpazialeItaliana to study Saturn and its moons.⁣⁣ ⁣ Credit: NASA/JPL/Spa...
