Saturn’s rings and northern hemisphere glow bright in this representational color photograph taken by Voyager 2. It's a combination of three images, taken through ultraviolet, violet and green filters.
This photo was taken on July 12, 1981 when Voyager 2 was 33.9 million kilometers (21 million miles) from the planet; the spacecraft made its closest approach about a month later on Aug. 25, 1981. Voyager 2 continues its mission today, as it travels through interstellar space.
