Space spiderweb alert! 🕷
Here’s a creepy celestial NASAHubble photo of a dying star called CW Leonis - just in time for Halloween!
The orange-red "cobwebs" in this image are actually dusty clouds of carbon engulfing a star at the end of its life. At a distance of 400 light-years from Earth, CW Leonis is the closest carbon star to our home planet.
CW Leonis has a relatively low surface temperature of 2,300 degrees Fahrenheit. The greenish beams of light emanating from the star are enhanced for better analysis through infrared image color-contrast.
