🌌 What mysteries await us at the heart of our home galaxy? This panorama of the Milky Way's galactic center brings together data from our orbiting nasachandraxray observatory and the MeerKAT radio telescope in South Africa. The orange, green, blue and purple areas of this image correspond to different levels of X-ray energy, with radio waves shown in lilac and gray. Combining observations from across the electromagnetic spectrum reveals the presence of intertwined threads of energy up to 20 light-years long, hypothesized to be held together by thin strips of magnetic fields. Learning more about these threads may help us study space weather, like the solar wind that blows through our solar system, and better understand the cosmic tapestry of the Milky Way's core.
