🎨 We’d like to hang this in our house 🖼️ Landsat satellites exist to provide information—millions of images’ worth of information—about the Earth’s surface, but also to capture the incredible and surreal beauty that makes up our planet. Shown here, we see the beautiful Lena River Delta captured by Landsat—a vast wetland fanning out from northeast Siberia into the Arctic Ocean. It is either frozen over and barren or thawed out and lush. After seven months encased in snow and ice, the delta emerges for the short Arctic summer. Green areas are likely the result of organic matter (debris from leaves, branches, and peat) dissolved in the water. 🛰️Heads up! 🛰️ On September 16, Landsat 9 will be the latest satellite to launch in the Landsat series—it will continue Landsat’s irreplaceable record of Earth’s land surface.
