Liftoff. In its historic inaugural flight, the Falcon 9 rocket with the SpaceX Crew Dragon successfully launched from Launch Complex 39A at the NASAKennedy Space Center in Florida on March 2, 2019. On March 3, the spacecraft autonomously docked with the International Space Station (ISS), representing one more crucial step in getting our Commercial Crew Program off the ground. This first-of-its-kind mission, called Demo-1, is the first flight test of a space system designed for humans built and operated by a commercial company. In addition to 400 pounds of supplies, the Crew Dragon spacecraft is carrying Ripley, an anthropomorphic test device outfitted with sensors to gather important data about what an astronaut flying aboard the spacecraft would experience throughout the mission.
