SPOTTED: Rectangular icebergs! ❄️❄️❄️ During operation IceBridge, the largest airborne survey to map Earth’s polar ice, scientist Jeremy Harbeck spotted two rectangular icebergs floating off the northern Antarctic Peninsula. He says, “I thought it was pretty interesting; I often see icebergs with relatively straight edges, but I've not really seen one before with two corners at such right angles like this one had.” Data collected during the mission will help scientists better understand processes that connect the polar regions with the global climate system.
