Jupiter’s Great Red Spot — Spotted! This image of the gas giant planet's iconic Great Red Spot and surrounding turbulent zones was captured in three separate images taken on April 1 as our Juno mission performed its 12th close flyby of Jupiter. At the time the images were taken, the spacecraft was 15,379 miles (24,749 km) to 30,633 miles (49,299 km) from the tops of the clouds of the planet.
During these flybys, Juno is probing beneath the cloud cover of Jupiter and studying its auroras to learn more about the planet's origins, structure, atmosphere and magnetosphere.
