Today, a coalition of philanthropic, government, and non-government organizations at the unitednations Ocean Conference pledged technical and financial assistance totaling more than $150 million in private and public funds to the Eastern Tropical Pacific. The funds will support conserving Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, and Panama's critical marine corridor. Each country has already made a commitment to protecting at least 30% of their sovereign waters.
This vast interconnected ecosystem feature some of the world’s most productive, biologically diverse, and ecologically significant marine environments. They also play a key role in the life of a wide range of shark, whale, and sea turtle populations and support billions of dollars annually in local economic activity.
