From rewild: Kasanka National Park, a Key Biodiversity Area, is an irreplaceable wonder of biodiversity, and is vital to supporting the world’s largest mammal migration for over 10 million Straw-Coloured Fruit Bats. Yet this precious habitat was recently threatened by disastrous commercial development on the national park’s borders, including a major agricultural plantation in Kasanka’s Game Management Area. Re:wild, kasankatrust, WWF, & 22 other organizations wrote to the President of Zambia last year urging him to prevent these incursions, and the Kasanka Trust and two community forest management groups took the two companies to court. The court ordered companies to temporarily halt conversion of the buffer zone for agriculture.
