Congratulations to Ecuadorian President guillermolasso and Ecuador's Ministry of the Environment on the creation of a new 23,166-square-miles Marine Protected Area near the Galápagos, and the world's largest debt swap for nature to help manage it, announced today at #COP26. The new MPA will help safeguard a key swim-way for a number of imperiled marine species, including Endangered Whale Sharks and Critically Endangered Scalloped Hammerhead Sharks. When we protect the wild that's left and restore the rest, we are giving our planet—and all life on it—the best chance at a healthy future. This includes in our oceans, which produce oxygen we breathe, food we eat and ecotourism opportunities, and sequester tremendous amounts of carbon.
