The vote came as scientists warned that the world may have already crossed a series of climate tipping points. In a separate vote on Thursday, MEPs backed a resolution stating that current EU climate targets were “not in line” with the 2015 Paris climate agreement and backed a tougher target of cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030. While this is an improvement on the current 40% target, environmental campaigners said the EU's declaration wasn't backed by sufficient action.
