Although it's not a scientific measurement, all of us guides are noticing dramatic changes in the glaciers of Southeast Alaska over the past few years. In many cases there literally is no science being done to measure the recession because funding is simply not available. What makes it extra difficult is that the people we are taking to these wild places are often seeing this for the first time and are in awe of the raw beauty and power of a glacier. That is the normal and appropriate reaction.
