April 2013: First ever NWSL game kicked off between FC Kansas City and Portland Thorns at a high school football field in Kansas. The game was in a small stadium with artificial turf and American football lines. March 2024: First ever NWSL-specific stadium opened in Kansas City, with a game between Kansas City Current and Portland Thorns. Both teams played out a very entertaining 5-4 game in a modern stadium with beautiful pitch and a sold-out crowd of almost 12,000 people.
