Peter Norman ( pictured far left ) was an Australian Sprinter who took the World by suprise in 1968 at the Olympic games in Mexico.
In the 200m final - Norman managed to win silver with 20.06 seconds an Oceanic record to this day. However it was what followed after that gave Norman his legacy & immortality.
Smith who had won Gold & Carlos who had won Bronze both wanted to take a stance against systematic segregation & the rampant racism back in the US. They also took off their shoes to highlight poverty of African Americans at the time. So both Carlos & Smith do the black power salute whilst wearing the badge of the Olympic Project for Human Rights.
Nonetheless, Norman, a kid from Melbourne knows whats about to happen as it is discussed. Carlos & Smith expected Norman to be fearful or leave - however he was happy to take a stance & even suggested to Smith & Carlos sharing their gloves with him as an act of unity, forever creating one of the most iconic photos in Olympics & Athleti...
